The Destiny Beta Finally Gets a Release Window for Xbox Owners

So far, the only way players have been able to get a little taste of Bungie’s upcoming shooter named Destiny has been by owning a PlayStation 4. Before, during and following E3, the former house of Halo rolled out Alpha access to PS4 gamers.

Xbox One owners? Left in the dust.

PlayStation 4 and 3 folk will have first dibs on the Destiny Beta as well. It will open up to pre-order holders on July 17.

Today, Bungie confirmed that Xbox One and Xbox 360 gamers will be able to dive into the Beta after pre-ordering the game “shortly after” that July 17 date that PS4/PS3 gamers will enjoy. So, yes, the timed exclusivity still lies with PlayStation on this one. Here’s how the official text reads on Bungie’s Beta site:

Be among the first to blaze a trail through the wild frontiers of Destiny. Pre-order and receive access to the upcoming beta. Beta begins on 07/17/14 on PS4™ system (PlayStation Plus required for some features) and PS3™ system. Soon after on Xbox One and Xbox 360 (Xbox Live Gold required). Beta date subject to change. Limited time only. While beta codes last. Internet connection required.

I had a small window of time to tool around with the Destiny Alpha following E3 a week or so ago. What I saw was pretty neat, and I’ll absolutely take a crack at the Beta next month.

How about you? Will you pre-order Destiny in order to grab Beta access? I’m almost treating it like a demo, myself.
