The first Android TV set-top boxes won’t hit the market until later this year, but today Razer unveiled its upcoming “micro-console” built to run on Google’s new entertainment platform. The new device offers all the impressive features included with Android TV, though Razer suggests it could also put an extra emphasis on gaming.
The company, which is best known for its line of gaming-focused peripherals and laptops, doesn’t offer any specifics on the device. Razer does emphasize its history of designing “thin and powerful PC systems,” suggesting its micro-console might put even Amazon’s super-thin Fire TV to shame. The company also highlights its experience making controllers, keyboards and mice, which has us thinking this Android TV device could come with its own special gaming controller or other accessories.
Razer doesn’t say when the device will launch beyond confirming Google’s promise that the first Android TV products are coming this fall. We’re also expecting set-top boxes from Asus and several other companies, though it looks like Razer’s micro-console may already be the early frontrunner.
