We’re pretty sure that Mojang is happy with the decision to put Minecraft on consoles. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of this phenomenon have now officially outsold the main PC and Mac builds.
It’s doing so well that the American PlayStation 3 version ranks number one on Amazon.jp with Japanese gamers incredibly eager to see what all the hubbub is about. We don’t need no stinkin’ region locking!
Altogether, Minecraft has sold a whopping 54 million copies worldwide, making it more successful than Grand Theft Auto V, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and even Super Mario Bros. 3. That’s great company to find yourself in.
Minecraft console editions together just passed Minecraft for PC/Mac. And across all platforms we've sold almost 54 million copies.

I’m one of the 54 million who have purchased a copy, but unlike everyone else, I haven’t been sucked in just yet. A few 10 minute stretches of gameplay is not enough to see what Minecraft really has to offer. Maybe my day has yet to come.
Huge numbers for this already impossibly big game. Expect it to jump even more once the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are released this August.
