Yesterday saw the leak of a new Godzilla game being developed by Bandai Namco for the PlayStation 3, and now, we have a confirmation of its existence and our first look at the gameplay.
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu reports that the game will be a mission based experience revolving around Godzilla destroying buildings and weapons belonging to to military. The developers have stated that they are deliberately trying to make Godzilla and the effects look like older flicks staring the monster.
In fact, this will act as one of the many direct sequels to the original 1954 films. The original monster was killed by the “Oxygen Destroyer” machine, but he has since mysteriously resurrected himself and is hell bent on revenge.
No look at any other potential rivals yet for the king to do battle with, but this original Godzilla didn’t fight another monster until the 1955 sequel, Godzilla Raids Again, when he fought Anguirus. Maybe this will be too early in the timeline for that to happen.
This game is definitely Japanese from the design, aesthetics, and effects. We’ll have to wait and see if Bandai Namco decides to publish this Stateside after the release in Japan this holiday season.
