Asus May Release a Low-Cost Android Wear Smartwatch in September

Asus has already confirmed it’s working on an Android Wear device of its own, but yesterday at Google I/O the upcoming smartwatch was nowhere to be seen. Well, according to a new report from TechCrunch the Asus smartwatch is still in the works, though it probably won’t hit the market until later this year.

One anonymous insider reveals that Asus is hoping to launch its low-cost Android Wear device in September. The upcoming smartwatch will apparently cost between $99 and $149, which is significantly lower than LG’s $229 G Watch or Samsung’s $200 Gear Live. The source adds that Asus opted to hold off on announcing the device, rather than rush to release in time for Google I/O.

We still don’t know anything else about the Asus smartwatch, though at $149 or less we’re guessing it won’t come with many extra features. If price is a major factor it may be worth holding out until this low-cost Android Wear device hits the market, but if you just can’t wait the G Watch and Gear Live are both shipping early next month and are available to order today from Google Play.
