Google I:O 2014 Protest

Google I/O 2014 is underway right now and we’re reporting live from the event, but the company’s presentations have been interrupted several times by protesters. It’s been relatively commonplace to read about protests in San Francisco, particularly in regards to increased housing prices with the new influx of wealthy individuals from tech companies, but we haven’t seen this happen yet.

Our president Jonathan Rettinger, who is in the crowd, said the most recent protester was shouting: “Google makes totalitarian robots that kill people.” That was the second such protest of the day, and we’re not quite sure how they’re getting into the Moscone Center in the first place.

The protester was likely referencing Google’s acquisition of Boston Dynamics┬álate last year. Google has not yet discussed robotics during I/O 2014, and we don’t expect it to.
