5.5-inch iPhone 6 May Be Only Model With OIS

The smartphone camera race has heated up over the past several years and, in an effort to stand out against the competition, OEMs such as LG, Nokia and HTC have added optical image stabilization (OIS) options to some smartphone cameras. OIS allows you to take a clearer image while moving, and it generally works really well.

One report earlier this year suggested Apple was working on a similar feature called “electronic image stabilization” (EIS) for its iPhone 6. Now, a new report suggests Apple may actually include OIS, but only on one model of its new iPhone 6.

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently published a research note that claims the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will lack optical image stabilization. Instead, Apple may only include it in the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6, Kuo argues. “The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is more likely to be equipped with OIS VCM due to lower estimated shipments and the need for more product features to differentiate itself from the 4.7-inch iPhone 6,” he said.

It seems the massive display is enough to differentiate the product, though if Apple adds a much higher price tag then adding bonus features will likely be necessary to woo consumers.
