Google Announces Project Volta to Improve Android Battery Life

Smartphone battery life is a big issue for many of us, but Google thinks it can solve the problem once and for all with Project Volta for Android L. The new feature is designed to optimize battery life and also includes a battery saving mode that turns on automatically when needed.

It sounds similar to features already offered on Android phones from companies like HTC and Samsung, though maybe Google will be able to do a better job. The company wasn’t clear on exactly how much extra battery life you’ll actually get, though apparently it should be enough to get you through “a long hike.”
