Android Auto Announced to Compete with Apple CarPlay

Google just announced Android Auto, a platform set to compete with CarPlay.

Android Auto will provide quick access to everything you need, like your music, navigation controls, messages, phone and more. Also, you can speak to it much like you would your smartphone with Google Now, so you can send texts with your voice, or search for points of interest.

It’s all powered by your smartphone, but still works with all of the in-car controls so long as it’s supported by the automaker. Developers can develop for the car using the new Android Auto SDK, which is coming “soon.” It will work with Android L later this year.

Google already has 40 partners in the Open Automotive Alliance, and 25 car brands are going to ship Android Auto in the near future. The first cars will launch before the end of this year.
