Insomniac Explains Sunset Overdrive’s Customization, Takes Jabs at Assassin’s Creed

Sunset Overdrive is far and away the most exciting Xbox One exclusive of the year, and perhaps in the entire line-up extending into next year as well. To go along with the high-flying parkour, rail grinding, and colorfully destructive arsenal of weapons, Insomniac is also giving you the option to create your own character in its seamless and constant world.

Wouldn’t you know it, you can even create a female character! Ever the cheeky development studio, Insomniac goes an extra few steps to dress up its demonstration characters similar to the assassins found in Assassin’s Creed in a not so subtle jab at the series. The point? Ubisoft has found itself in a little hot water after E3 for not allowing creators to use a female character in Assassins Creed Unity.

“Self expression is super important to us,” Insomniac’s Brandon Winfrey¬†says following a question from the questionably existing “Brittany.” He would go on to explain that clothes will not be limited to gender, so¬†“if you want to be a dude in a skirt, you can be a dude in a skirt.”

I’m suddenly thinking about the Dead Rising series in a whole new light for some reason.

Keep an eye out for Sunset Overdrive this fall. We recently called it one of our most anticipated games of 2014 following E3, and if I owned an Xbox One, it would be the first game I would pick up.
