In Japan, you can download a piece of DLC for Mario Kart 8. That DLC is a Mercedes GLA-Class kart. It’s free.
Now, Nintendo of America has announced that we’re getting the kart here in the States as well.

Nintendo didn’t announce exact timing or, perhaps more importantly, the price. I’d be incredibly surprised if we’re asked to pay for this piece of advertising, though, so let’s assume it’s free until we hear otherwise.
As odd as it is to see a licensed vehicle in a Mario Kart game, this isn’t necessarily the worst way the company could leak ads into our gaming experience. EA Sports, for instance, hocks out real ad space in loading screens in games like NHL. That’s no good, in my book.
Nintendo’s ad is a piece of playable DLC and, perhaps the most important bit, entirely optional. Don’t want this Benz in your game? Don’t download it.
Personally, I hope this is the start of more DLC for Mario Kart 8. I’m already itching for more characters, kart parts and tracks. How about you?
