Amazon’s new Fire Phone smartphone, which was just announced today as an exclusive to AT&T, will come with one year of Amazon Prime service for a limited time. That means new Amazon customers will get 12-months of Prime for the first time, for free, and existing customers will be able to use Prime for another year without paying the premium.

Your Prime membership will start right when you setup your Fire Phone and register your device, and you should receive an email indicating that it has been activated. If you’re already a p;rime member, your renewal will begin at no charge whenever it was originally set to expire. If you have more than one account, the membership will be applied to the account you register the Fire Phone to.

If you return your Fire Phone, the rest of the Prime membership will be cancelled, so you can’t just buy the phone and get a free year of Prime out of it without continuing to own the device. It’s a nice benefit, but we wonder how many people are going to buy the phone for the Prime benefit only.
