iPad Air 2 “Perfect Replica” Shows Touch ID, New Speakers

Considering all the iPhone 6 dummy units floating around it’s a bit surprising that we haven’t seen very many iPad mockups hit the web so far. Today we’re getting a look at what appears to be a “perfect replica” of the upcoming iPad Air 2, courtesy of French tech blog NoWhereElse.

The iPad Air 2 dummy appears to confirm recent rumors that Apple’s upcoming crop of tablets will feature the same Touch ID fingerprint scanner introduced with the iPhone 5s. A few other design tweaks are also on display here, including a redesigned speaker grille with just a single row of large holes placed on either side of the Lightning port. The new volume buttons stick out less than they did on the original iPad Air, though that could just be the result of a poorly crafted dummy unit.

It’s hard to tell whether this iPad Air 2 replica is any thinner than the current model, though we’re guessing Apple will manage to slim down the tablet at least a little bit. We still don’t know when Cupertino’s next big tablet will hit the market, though all signs are pointing to an event in September where the company is likely to unveil a new iPad mini model with Touch ID as well.
