No, really. Nintendo has announced that a new Nintendo 3DS game from Intelligent Systems, the studio which brought you Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, stars a team of elite brawlers assembled by Abraham Lincoln to battle aliens hell bent on destroying the planet.
Um, where do I sign up?
Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is set in a steampunk London, and it will put players in charge of a special military unit created by American President Abraham Lincoln tasked with defending the Earth from invading aliens. Intelligent System’s has a rich history with the strategy genre, and it will be bringing it in full force to this new game.
However, unlike the previous games it has made, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. sounds more like Valkyria Chronicles in that characters are controlled through the third-person viewpoint and character placements, camera angles, and viewpoints will play a huge role in victory. Each fighter in the army is powered by steam, and each has a limited supply which will determine how much they can move and attack within a single turn.
Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and Xenoblade Chronicles Producer Hitoshi Yamagami is helming the project, with Paul Patraschu directing and Takako Sakai acting as art director. She claims to be inspired by American comic artists Jack Kirby and Bruce Timm for the look of the game, and a Google search puts Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn in her resume.
Here’s a quick look at the small pile of assets we have.
