If you want to enjoy Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U as best as you can, then there is no way around it. You are going to have to order this GameCube Controller adapter. No controller is more suitable for Nintendo’s fighting franchise, and best of all, it won’t be setting you back that much either.
The standard adapter for the game will only cost $19.99, not a bad price for avoiding all the aggravation that playing Super Smash Bros. without a GameCube will cause you. Those without a GameCube controller though can pick up a special version released with Super Smash Bros. branding for $29.99 on top of that.
Nintendo is also offering a third option which will bundle Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, the adapter, and a single controller for $99.99. Sounds like a decent deal, but I’ll be sticking with my Wavebird, thanks.
Adding GameCube controller support to Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is one of the best decisions Nintendo has made in building up the hype for this game. If enough adapters are sold, who knows where this might lead? Maybe we’ll be seeing GameCube games pop up on the Virtual Console with the support of their native controller.
Dare to dream, right? Man, I want to play Super Mario Sunshine again.
