The fingerprint reader on the Galaxy S5 isn’t the most accurate of readers, but Samsung seems bent on bringing the same technology to future devices. An app store update last week hinted that the upcoming S5 mini could sport a fingerprint sensor as well, and now a leaked APK for the device shared by @evleaks appears to confirm the news as well.
The same fingerprint scanner also showed up in a few Galaxy S5 mini photos leaked to SamMobile last week, showing the rumored smartphone in white. It’s possible Samsung made some improvements to the scanner, but considering this is a mid-range device we don’t have high hopes.
Based on previous reports, we’re expecting the Galaxy S5 mini to come equipped with a 4.5-inch 720p display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, 1.5GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 400 processor, a 2100mAh battery. It will likely run Android 4.4 with Samsung’s own UI on top, and apparently offers the same pock-marked plastic design introduced with the S5.
Of course, Samsung still hasn’t confirmed the Galaxy S5 mini so this is all just speculation. The device is pretty much a given though, and at this point it’s likely only a matter of time before it gets an official announcement. Last year Samsung unveiled the S4 Mini in late May, so it probably won’t be much longer before the S5 mini is revealed as well.
