Apple is opening up Touch ID to third-party developers with iOS 8. This is huge news!

When Apple introduced its fingerprint-scanning software with the iPhone 5s it was restricted to unlocking your phone and making purchases in the App Store. Starting with iOS 8 any third-party developer should be able to use the same technology in their own apps, opening the door for tons of new functions including mobile payments.

Apple didn’t mention whether Touch ID will be coming to more devices this year, but we probably won’t find that out until new iPads and iPhones are announced at a future press event.
