The original Ratchet & Clank trilogy highlights Insomniac Games’ impressive 20 years of existence. Not only are they very fun, but they also pushed the PlayStation 2’s hardware in ways that developers could only dream of back in 2002. The busy worlds and genius weapon design were so far ahead of their time, and even when others finally caught up, the original Ratchet & Clank games still held up, cementing their status as classics.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say that the original trilogy are the most influential 3D platforming games since Super Mario 64, which is why as many people need to play them as possible.
All three are already secure on my PlayStation 3 in full blown HD, but another audience will be getting a chance in the near future. Insomniac Games has confirmed that the Ratchet & Clank HD Trilogy will be available on the PS Vita in July. PlayStation Blog Europe first broke the news, confirming it would be available for €29.99 on July 2nd and Australia would be getting the pack on July 9th.
“Since the HD trilogy was released, one of the biggest requests from many of you was for a version of the Trilogy to come to PlayStation Vita. We’ve heard you loud and clear, and thanks to Sony and Mass Media, the Ratchet & Clank HD Trilogy will be something you can play on the go.”
Between the Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper series available on the PS Vita, you have the best 3D platforming titles from the genre’s second coming on the PlayStation 2 available in the palm of your hands.
Any hopes for Jak & Daxter? I was never a fan.
