Moto X+1: Here Is Our First Look At the Bigger Screen

There will be another Moto X, possibly called the Moto X+1, and this could be our very first glimpse at the new hardware. An image of the device was shared through Baidu without much context; the poster very casually mentions that the screen size has been increased to 5.2-inches, with a resolution of 1080p. Nothing we haven’t heard before, but it’s always nice to get a glimpse at new hardware, especially if it’s from the design wizards at Motorola.

Seemingly corroborating the rumor seems to be former Motorola product specialist, Anthony Cheng, who on Google+ hashtagged the image Moto X+1. That might not mean anything, or it could mean exactly what it sounds like.

In any case, the bezels seem to be very minimal, with the design appearing to resemble what we loved about the Moto X. The edges look to be rounded, similar to Motorola’s other existing handsets, while the screen itself nearly stretches from top to bottom. Even with an increased screen size, we can’t imagine the device getting all that much bigger; the Moto X has a 4.7-inch screen and is about the size of an iPhone 5s, which has a 4-inch screen.

Over the past month or so, we’ve seen the Moto X+1 popup on numerous occasions, even showing up on Motorola’s Moto Maker website. From what we’ve been hearing, the device will sport a Full HD display, improved specs, and additional Moto Maker options. It’s unclear how Motorola will improve upon the software, but hopefully the tweaks we see will be similar to what was introduced with the Moto X—they’re what made the device great in the first place.

Motorola promised we’d see a Moto X successor later this summer, possibly around August. We’ve said it multiple times, but it always bears repeating: the Moto X is still one of the smarter devices money can buy, and if the Moto X+1 carries on that same approach, it’ll definitely be worthwhile when it launches in a few months.
