Just a couple of days ago we saw a leaked press shot of the Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T and today a whole batch of new images were published by @evleaks. Last week’s picture showed us what the front of the phone looked like; this time we get a glimpse at both the front and the back. Clearly this phone is meant to withstand quite a beating.
The hardware buttons, which look similar to the design on last year’s model, suggest that Samsung has ditched the fingerprint reader on the Galaxy S5 Active. On the back, however, you can see that the heart rate monitor is still sitting next to the single LED flash. The added bulk is likely to meet requirements for certification against dust and water. While the Galaxy S5 is already IP67 against both water and dust — similar to last year’s Galaxy S4 Active — the Galaxy S5 Active will presumably be able to survive even higher drops and perhaps withstand being submerged in deeper water.
In a recent hands-on video, we learned that Samsung will still offer a Super AMOLED display on the S5 Active, instead of moving to LCD as it did last year, while also including a 15.9-megapixel camera and a Snapdragon 801 processor. No word yet on a launch date but it looks like the Galaxy S5 Active will hit the market soon.
