What red-blooded video gamer doesn’t want to play another game from thatgamecompany? We’ve been twiddling our thumbs and waiting patiently for a follow up to Flower and Journey, and hopes are now beginning to look up as it could be happening soon.

Investment firm Capital Today and other benefactors have pledged $7 million to the indie studio’s next hit. On its official website, thatgamecompany praises the companies because they all “share our vision in making meaningful interactive experiences that inspire, connect, and emotionally touch the hearts of players around the world.”

With this new investment, our studio is able to scale up development efforts to focus on making the best game possible in the same spirit as flOw, Flower, and Journey. We’ll also begin laying the infrastructure to self-publish, market, and distribute on our own terms for this next project and beyond.

It’s been a while since we last heard from thatgamecompany and its mysterious new game. Journey game designer Asher Vollmer had said that thatgamecompany’s next project was going to “change the industry,” but he unfortunately would not be able to participate since he left to found his own studio.

thatgamecompany’s indie hits Flower and flOw are playable on the PlayStation 4 and free if you’ve already purchased them for the PlayStation 3. We hope to see more of the award winning team’s newest game in the coming months, perhaps at E3?
