You Can Now Use Your Phone to Buy Donuts at Tim Hortons

Canadian purveyor of coffee and donuts Tim Hortons is jumping into mobile payments with an app of its own for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry 10 devices. The new TimmyMe app has been in testing for the past few months and now it’s finally available to the general public.

If you’re using an NFC-enabled smartphone you can simply tap to pay, though only at some participating locations. For everywhere else, you’ll be able to scan the barcode on your bill using your smartphone camera to quickly pay with the app. TimmyMe will also help you find the nearest Tim Hortons, place an order ahead of time to skip the line, and even browse through nutritional information for items on the coffee chain’s menu.

The new Tim Horton’s app is available in the U.S. and Canada. TimmyMe puts the company in direct competition with Starbucks, which also offers a mobile payments system through its own official app. It looks like we’re finally seeing mobile payments start to take off, though for now the technology is still mostly just available from a few major chains. Hit the source for download links from various app stores.
