After predicting it would hit 10 million paid subscribers late last month, Spotify finally confirmed the news today. The Stockholm-based company currently dominates when it comes to on-demand streaming, but still lags behind radio-style services like Pandora and iTunes Radio.
Spotify has been expanding aggressively in the face of increased competition. The company introduced a free version of its mobile app late last year for iOS and Android, and finally got around to updating its Windows Phone app last week. Spotify also introduced a drastically redesigned mobile app with a darker and sleeker look and a few new features.
To celebrate today’s milestone, Spotify also revealed some statistics based on its 40 million total active listeners around the world. It turns out the most streamed artist is Eminem, while Rihanna takes the prize for most popular female musician. Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” is the music streaming service’s most-played song at 235 million streams.
The company announced the news with a sweet guitar-shaped infographic, which you can click below to see a larger version.
