Ugh, I just knew this would happen. Not long after I purchased Child of Light for my PlayStation 3, all I could think was “Man, this is the kind of game I want to play on my Vita.” Well, in that same time frame after I spent money in the first wave of availability, Ubisoft announced that its 2D RPG hit would indeed be coming to the PlayStation Vita.
Perfecting timing, Ubisoft. I hope you enjoy those double dip dollars from those who would have purchased it on the Vita in the first place. This is the exact reason why I don’t buy games out of the gate anymore, because publishers are always holding something back until that launch window ends.
For what it’s worth, we are fans of the game and gave it good marks, so double dipping at a sale price is not totally out of the question for me. Just don’t expect me to fall for the same bait and switch twice once you release Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Ubisoft. You might as well just come out and announce a Vita version now and save us the time we otherwise would spend considering a console version.
The reveal trailer and screenshots show a game that isn’t half as beautiful as the home console version, though. So who knows, maybe I might have dodged a bullet.
Child of Light will be released for the PlayStation Vita on July 2 for $15. It is already available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
