Last month we started to get word of a product from HTC called the One M8 (Ace) and even saw a leaked press image of the product. Today, we’re getting an even better look at a new smartphone that HTC is allegedly getting ready to ship, in addition to new information on the phone. The product is clearly a member of the One family, though doesn’t offer all of the features of the One (M8) flagship.
According to Engadget, it’s a “rejiggered version” of the high-end M8 and includes a 5-inch 1080p screen a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and, clearly, no Duo Camera in tow. Another major difference? The device is apparently made out of plastic instead of aluminum, which should help keep costs down in some regions, like Asia, where it’s expected to launch. Engadget said that HTC also removed the IR blaster, so you won’t be able to control your TV. Finally, HTC is apparently going to sell it under the HTC One M8 Style or HTC One M8 Fashion edition in China.
The news outlet also suggests that this could be the HTC One M8 Prime that we’ve been hearing about, which means we’re not quite sure what to make of the waterproof aluminum rumor we recently heard about. Maybe that will be saved for the One Max 2?
