LG still hasn’t unveiled its G3 handset—the company has an event planned for later this month—but already a new report is looking well beyond that; well, well into the future. We’re talking early next year. According to Evleaks, LG has plans to unleash a new G Flex in the early part of 2015, and its shining feature won’t be a curved screen or self-healing plastic, though those will still be present. The device will allegedly sport a feature “even more unique,” though details beyond that are nowhere to be found.
So what could make a unique device even more unique? Holographic projection? Teleportation capabilities? The ability to read someone’s mind? This far in advance of the device’s release, it’s difficult to guess—but LG supposedly has something in mind. Seeing as the G Flex 2 isn’t expected to launch until “mid-Q1 2015,” anything can change between now and then, but you’re free to speculate away.
As it is, the trajectory of the mobile market is headed toward higher resolution displays, thinner builds and bigger batteries. Beyond that, we’re not sure what to expect out of the smartphone market; this might be a case of not knowing what we want until we see it. Maybe a foldable device? Or a screen that wraps around the body? Or maybe a truly edge-to-edge display, which has been teased from manufacturers before. I’m sure much more information will pop up as the year goes on.
