Grand Theft Auto is obviously a major franchise in the gaming world, and a brand new platform now has access to the three games which transformed it from a cult hit into the biggest franchise in the world. Amazing Fire TV and Kindle Fire users now have access to Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
All three games must be purchased individually, but they won’t be setting you back that much. Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City are available for $4.99 each, but Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is going to cost a bit more at $6.99.
To celebrate the launch, though, purchasing San Andreas will land you 2,000 Amazon coins for a limited time, which is more than enough to pick up the other two games for free with enough left over for more apps, movies, and music.
Amazon needs a few large titles to help sell its Fire TV as a gaming platform, and Grand Theft Auto is about as big as they come. Besides Telltale promising to port The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and The Wolf Among Us, there aren’t many other huge titles to lean on at the moment. Are these classic games enough to sell you Amazon Fire TV as a cheap gaming platform?
It’s certainly not able to perform Grand Theft Auto IV or Grand Theft Auto V at this point, meaning that gaming will be more of a novelty for classic and indie games. Don’t expect anything on the level of the latest AAA games.
