If Inti Creates wants to be a world renowned developer of classic Japanese style 2D action games, then by all means it has scored the right to do so in my book after watching this video of its newest game, Azure Striker Gunvolt.
The company put the video up on its official Twitter page, and from there, it can do all the talking on its own. It’s 53 seconds of pure genius game design.
Everything about this game screams of the days when Capcom and other giants of Japanese action titles were the driving force of the video game industry. Mega Man X, Bionic Commando, Castlevania, I could go on and on about the series from back in those days, but we’ll simply leave it by comparing this Inti Create’s work with the Mega Man Zero series and taking it a step further.
Azure Striker Gunvolt channels all the greatest in this one video from precise platforming to the seamless flow of action between obstacles to the genius employment of special powers beyond their intended use. This is also just a secret level, so I can’t wait to see what is in store for the real game.
Azure Striker Gunvolt is the game Inti Creates is working on alongside Comcept’s and Mega Man co-creator Keiji Inafune’s Kickstarter sensation, Mighty No. 9. It is being handled by a different team behind the scenes, and Inti Creates claims that it has total creative control over this property. When both projects are completed, hopefully it sees enough financial success to take its skills into further games.
Look out for Azure Striker Gunvolt on the Nintendo 3DS this summer.
