Nintendo blew or minds this past week by announcing Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, full 3D remakes of the third generation of Pokémon for the Nintendo 3DS.
New game footage released by Nintendo shows that it is not holding back on the graphics either with the game’s legendary Pokémon, Groudon and Kyogre, looking fabulous in the same unmistakable style that made Pokémon X and Y so revolutionary to the series.
With each new handheld device, Nintendo has released since the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo has released a new game in the series, and then gone back and remade one of the classic games using the same style. Ruby and Sapphire begot Fire Red and Leaf Green. Diamond and Pearl begot HeartGold and SoulSilver, and now X and Y are leading into Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Great decision too, because the third generation of Pokémon games is by far the most forgettable of the bunch. All we have to wait and see now is if it features Mega Evolutions.
How about it? Are you ready to catch ’em all… again? I haven’t even caught them all in Pokémon X and Y yet, and as far as the remakes go, Leaf Green will always be the definitive one for me. If I were looking for a new remake, I’d actually go for HeartGold first since the second generation of Pokemon games is the only one I skipped. Ruby and Sapphire never really did it for me.
Still, I can’t pretend to not be excited for more Pokémon on the 3DS.
