Katie Cotton, who helped lead Apple’s marketing efforts as VP of Worldwide Corporate Communications for more than 18 years is leaving the company, Re/code reports. The company hasn’t made an official announcement and Cotton’s LinkedIn profile still lists her as working at Apple, but in an official statement Cupertino confirmed the exec is leaving to “spend time with her children.”

As an Apple employee for almost two decades, Cotton helped market most of the company’s major products through interactions with the media. She also worked closely with both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook as an intermediary between the CEO and the press, helping to build Apple up to its current status.

In a quick statement to Re/code Cotton confirmed the news, telling the site, “This is hard for me. Apple is a part of my heart and soul.” It’s certainly possible she’ll return to 1 Infinite Loop at some point in the future, though for now Apple will be forced to forge on without her. “We are really going to miss her,” the company said.
