I still own a few cases of NES games (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ninja Gaiden, Excite Bike, Zelda, etc.). And what a perfect time to revisit some of those classics: Analogue, auteur of high-end retro consoles, has announced that pre-orders for its all-aluminum NES are available for pre-order. All you need is $500 and a huge dose of nostalgia. Unless you’re really, really hankering for some old-school gaming, chances are you don’t have enough disposable income to justify such a purchase. Not when the Xbox One goes for the same price.
Still. The Analogue NT, as it’s being called, promises to support the entire NES and Famicom library, including Famicom Disk games. The NT will also support Component, S-Video and Composite, and you can buy an HDMI adapter that will upscale to 720p or 1080p. The console is region-free, too, so you can play whatever titles you have lying around; it also comes with ports for the original NES controllers, and Famicom’s expansion port as well.
The console itself is machined from a single block of 6061 aluminum alloy, and looks more like a smartphone/tablet dock than old-school console. If that classic silver isn’t doing it for you, you can pre-order a different color (black, pink, blue, and red), though that will cost you an extra $49. The HDMI adapter is $49, too, while new controllers are also $49. The Analogue NT is expected to hit in summer of this year.
