Tumblr for iOS and Android Receives Major Update

Tumblr has always strived to offer total customization on the web, but until now its mobile app hasn’t offered many options for creating a distinct profile. That changes now. Tumblr rolled out major update for the Yahoo-owned company’s Android and iOS apps that lets you play with colors and fonts while testing out new themes right from your smartphone.

The update, dubbed the biggest in the past 5 years, should help bridge the social network’s desktop and mobile platforms at a time when more and more people are visiting the site on smartphones and tablets. About half of Tumblr’s users are mobile, with that number expected to grow rapidly in the near future, so putting an emphasis on mobile usage is more important now than ever.

In total, Tumblr says it now offers 3.3 billion possible combinations for your mobile Tumblr page, factoring in customization options for your header image, fonts, colors and a “bunch of other things.” Any changes you make on mobile will also show up in your desktop browser and vice versa.

If you’ve downloaded the Tumblr app in the past it should be updating automatically, but if it hasn’t already you can head to Google Play or the App Store via the source links below to speed up the process and start customizing.
