For all its powerful hardware the LG G2‘s plastic shell wasn’t particularly impressive, but it looks like the upcoming G3 could swap out the old plastic for a new metal frame—at least in some models. A new photo of the device obtained by @evleaks shows what appears to be a brushed metal back panel in a close-up of the LG G3.

The alleged LG G3 pictured above reminds us of the black HTC One (M8) and its brushed metal design, which could definitely be a nice look for the South Korean company’s upcoming flagship phone. It’s hard to tell much from this photo though, particularly because it’s so tightly cropped. We see a slice of the down-volume button on the back of the device along with an LG logo, but that doesn’t exactly differentiate the G3 from last year’s G2 design.

LG’s new phone is expected to feature a slightly different configuration of buttons on the back, with the addition of one new button to the right of the camera serving a still-unclear function. The G3 will likely also pack a QHD 5.5-inch display, a 3000mAh battery and a 13-megapixel camera. LG is set to announce the new phone at a global event on May 27, so it won’t be much longer before we get the official rundown on this device.
