Capcom asked for fans to vote in which order they wanted the Mega Man Game Boy games to be released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console through the month of May, and the results are in.
The winner of the poll, Mega Man Xtreme for the Game Boy Color, is already available for download at a nice price of $4.99. Following it, Capcom will release one or two games every Thursday for what it is calling “Mega May.” Here is the schedule below.
- Mega Man II, Mega Man III – May 8th
- Mega Man IV – May 15th
- Mega Man V – May 22nd
- Mega Man Xtreme 2 – May 29th
Capcom isn’t straying too far from the chronological releases of the games, but that is perfectly fine. Save the best for last I suppose. Mega Man V is the best of the bunch with an original line-up of Robot Masters and an astounding “space” theme that is unlike anything else in the series. Mega Man Xtreme 2 is also a blast and is worth checking out if you are a fan of 8-bit “de-makes.”
As for the rest of the games, they are all simply Mega Man games plus the charming appeal of classic black and white Game Boy, and get a seal of approval simply for that. They don’t stray too far from the classic NES games aside from the resolution of the screen. Mega Man somehow manages to remain the same size though, giving these games a much more claustrophobic feel perfect for a mobile game.
Hopefully, Capcom can close out “Mega May” with the announcement most fans want to hear. An original Mega Man game perhaps? Or am I asking for too much?
