It looks like the rumors were true. Apple refreshed the MacBook Air on the Apple Store over night, rather silently, as several reports in the past several days suggested it was preparing to do. You won’t find anything drastic changed on the outside of the refreshed laptops; rather, the changes are all under the hood. The brand new MacBook Air units now have 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processors in their base configurations, and a $100 price drop across the board.
Meanwhile, later this year we’re also expecting Apple to release a MacBook Air with Retina Display. That new panel is likely going to boost the price a bit, though not by much. The MacBook Pro with Retina display costs about $100 more than the standard MacBook Pro, though has a slightly slower processor. If you dig the much sharper display and don’t mind the slight bump in price, you may want to consider holding off on today’s MacBook Air refresh and waiting for the newer MacBook Air with Retina Display units to launch later this year, assuming rumors are correct.
