After buying Nest for $3.2 billion earlier this year, Google finally started selling the company’s Internet-connected thermostat directly through the Google Play Store on Tuesday. The Nest Learning Thermostat is available from Google for $249, the same price it costs from other outlets.
Nest’s arrival on Google Play is also carefully timed to line up with Earth Day, and Google says it will plant one tree for every thermostat purchased through its online store today. The eco-friendly product helps you consume less energy (and spend less money) by regulating your home temperature. Plus, by buying one, you may be eligible for an energy rebates from your power company.
If you’re hoping to buy the company’s smoke and carbon monoxide detector, the Nest Protect, you’ll still have to go through another retailer. Google isn’t offering Nest’s second device just yet, though it probably wouldn’t be very hard to add it to the Play Store’s inventory in the near future.
