We already know the X-Men will be pushed to the brink in Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. But the latest trailer—the final one before the movie is released on May 23—reveals what the crew goes up against as they fight for survival. The struggle between X-Men and humans isn’t the only focus of the movie, as we’re introduced to the ruthless Sentinels, which are threatening to kill every living thing in sight. Humans, mutants, everyone.

The trailer is a brief snapshot of how Wolverine travels back in time to bring the group together to stop the threat before it even begins. Early on, it seems, nobody is really interested in teaming up. But it quickly becomes clear that if the X-Men want to survive, they’ll have to work together to preserve their species. Even if that means enlisting the help of Magneto, who seems more powerful than ever.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be the second huge Marvel film this year, following behind the terrific Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Judging from what we’ve seen so far, we’re expecting big things from Days of Future Past. May 23 can’t come soon enough.
