Spelunky World Record Broken After Just Two Months

It’s been two months since living legend Spelunky player, Bananasaurus Rex, achieved what was thought to be the largest pot of loot humanly possibly in the game. As of this weekend, his $3,105,850 pile of gold now pales in comparison to YamaYamaDingDong’s latest run, which netted $3,109,850.

YamaYamaDingDong streamed his record on Twitch, and you can watch it here. Keep in mind, his language is NSFW as he is understandably excited after achieving the world record.

I can’t wait until 30 years from now when some genius makes a documentary on these guys lives we get to see all of these professional Spelunky players reminiscing about the good old days of their rivalry, ala King of Kong. If ever there was a game from recent memory that seems like it could last and remain as competitive and compelling as the arcade hits of old after so many years, it is definitely Spelunky.

Illegal scores, heated comments, an infinitely possible game. There is just so much drama to be had.

Bananasaurus Rex already claimed the first solo eggplant run, but as it stands now, he is number two in the books. Where we go from here has yet to be written. When will we see the next world record for Spelunky set?
