iWatch Flexible Display May Come From LG

When LG released the curvy, flexible G Flex smartphone last year we definitely took note of the impressive new technology, and it looks like Apple may be interested as well. A new report out of Korea suggests Apple may have already commissioned LG to manufacture the curved display for its upcoming iWatch.

LG’s already hinted that it’s ready speed up the production of flexible OLED, and a report last year claimed Apple had partnered with the South Korean company back in October 2013. A separate report claimed the iWatch might also use LG’s stepped batteries, which were featured in the G Flex due to there curved shape.

LG is a major display supplier, so it makes perfect sense that it would be tapped to provide components for Apple. Its screens are used on the iPad mini with Retina display, for example. Samsung has its own flexible display technology, however, but we know Apple is trying to cut back on its reliance on Samsung, which also provides parts for the iPhone, and that may be just one reason why Apple tapped LG.
