One of video gaming’s most infamous examples of vaporware, Beyond Good & Evil 2, recently made an appearance in a recent live stream of Ubisoft employees playing Rayman Legends. Two minutes into the broadcast, creator Michel Ancel flashed a brief glimpse at the character art for Jade, the previous game’s protagonist. His actions are sure to inspire a lot of speculation.
Ancel looks very pleased with himself showing off the art as well.
Rumors have been flying around about Beyond Good & Evil 2 ever since it appeared and mysteriously disappeared after its 2008 teaser debut and leaked gameplay trailer. Tensions between Ancel and Ubisoft have been speculated and reported on numerous times in the past, but the general atmosphere of the situation points to the game simply being too complicated for previous generation hardware, and that a next-gen release would be most likely.
We don’t yet know if this tease means anything or not, but the original game’s passionate fanbase is definitely going to be expecting answers from Ubisoft in the coming months. I am a huge fan of the original, but I had all but given up on the sequel. I feel the fire burning once again.
Could we be seeing an E3 reveal? Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned the game in a long time, but it just confirmed its E3 time slot this week. After EA’s strong showing at E3 last year with more gamer focused titles like Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare and Mirror’s Edge, this could be one title to win back the spotlight.
