Adult Swim Games has already established itself as a powerful force on the mobile market, and it is now looking to stake a claim on a handheld console. It partnered with indie developers Joar Jakobsson and James Primate to bring their Kickstarter success, Rain World, to the PS Vita.
Rain World raised a solid $63,255 back during its Kickstarter run in February, well more than the $25,000 requested. Many have compared its fluid animation, sense of color, and pixel graphics with another Kickstarter sensation, Hyper Light Drifter. Despite the success, no mention of a release beyond the originally intended PC and Mac plans had been announced until now.
According to the update, Rain World will now be brought to “PSN, PS Vita and well beyond,” meaning more platforms are more than likely.
Rain World stars are a hybrid race of animals called “slugcats,” horrendous abominations with the reflexes and flexibility of a cat, but lacking any limbs just like a slug. The purpose of the game is to crawl through puzzles without being caught by evil “slugcats.” Call it silly, but Joar Jakobsson and James Primate have got a great sense of style, and the game is clearly inspired by the likes of Abe’s Oddysee, making a perfect fit for the PlayStation brand.
Rain World is also the last Kickstarter game I pledged to support before forcing myself to quit. Not until I receive every game I’ve supported until this point will I be giving out another dollar. The ETA is this December, so hopefully nobody will have to wait too long for Adult Swim’s PS Vita port.
