HTC-One-M8-Review--BlinkFeed-2

One of our favorite features of the HTC One (M8) is that several of its core applications can be updated independently through Google Play, instead of through software pushes that need approvals from carriers. It’s an idea HTC likely took from Motorola, which did the same thing with several of its devices released in 2013. Now, we’re starting to see the first updates being pushed out.

HTC on Thursday released new versions of its BlinkFeed and Gallery applications. Gallery was updated with a new feature that allows you to tap anywhere on the screen to apply the Foregrounder effect. Meanwhile, BlinkFeed was updated with bug fixes, the ability to add even more social content (we have to dig through to see what HTC specifically means by this) and a better scrolling experienced that’s more optimized for the phone. Neither update is groundbreaking but that’s what makes the approach so awesome: HTC can quickly push out updates both big and small.

We’ve included links to both the Gallery and BlinkFeed updates in the source below, though your phone should also automatically pull them in. Since both apps require Sense 6, neither update is available for the One M7 yet.
