Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Trailer – The Best of Three Worlds

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth is the ultimate Atlus fanservice game. Not only does it star the characters from both Persona 3 and Persona 4, but it also is being headed up by Atlus’ other RPG series team Etrian Odyssey. The influences from both series are spelled out by Atlus in the latest gameplay trailer.

Five players have been added to the fights in , which has always been an Etrian Odyssey standard, and unlike the last two Persona games, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth plays out in a first-person view. Battle animations are kept simple, and the cutesy character art more closely resembles Etrian Odyssey than its parent series. Players will even be responsible for drawing their own maps.

At the same time, Persona Q pulls the camera back, putting the characters in full view when they attack in a way that Etrian Odyssey has never done. Maybe it’s just the trailers from Atlus, but this pullback adds an extra few seconds to the battles, messing up the lightning fast pacing both series traditionally enjoy.

Call that nitpicking at best, though. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth is one of my most anticipated games right now on the Nintendo 3DS or any platform for that matter. I love Persona, I love Atlus and I love Etrian Odyssey. I’m having trouble seeing how this could wrong.

Atlus also revealed the game’s colorful box-art. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth will be released in June in Japan, but an English localization is not expected until later in the year.
