Borderlands 2

You read that right. A “pre-sequel” might be coming soon in the Borderlands series. That means, we suppose, a game that takes place between the first Borderlands and Borderlands 2.

GamePointsNow has the story as it appears the site has broken an information embargo with 2K Games, the publisher behind Borderlands. They say that they’ve gotten their hands on information that leaks the existence of this pre-sequel.

Set on the moon, players will take on the role of one of four lieutenants below Handsome Jack as he searches for an alien artifact. As GamePointsNow has it, players will pick characters from “Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, a militarised claptrap.”

The title is supposedly set to drop this year for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms.

Now, while we can’t confirm this rumor, we can state for the record that we have an appointment with 2K this coming weekend to check out two separate games at PAX East. We’ll see Evolved, the already announced shooter and we have a 30 minute block to see an unannounced title.

Could that unannounced title be this Borderlands pre-sequel? We’ll find out soon.
