Yelp Now Lets You Search Listings With Emoji

Yelp emoji search

When words apparently aren’t enough, search Yelp with emoji. A new update to the mobile app now shows results when you type in a single emoji character. A pizza slice, for example, will return search results for nearby pizza shops—and so on and so forth. It’s a neat little trick, and I suppose could make things easier to search, but it really isn’t that difficult to just type in “hamburger” or “burrito.” Is there even a burrito emoji?

While the feature doesn’t really add that much value to the app, I wouldn’t be surprised to see others follow suit. In fact, Twitter just started showing emoji on its main Twitter home page, so obviously the desire to use and show emoji is strong. Pretty soon our entire Internet language will be based on simple airplane icons and little smiling poops. Again, not the most thrilling way to use Yelp, but something to show off to friends at your next party.
