Yesterday we were treated to one of the first leaked images of the Galaxy S5 Zoom, which showed a phone with a much smaller camera bump than its predecessor (pictured above). That image came with some specs, though today SamMobile published what it says are the exclusive final hardware components that will be included in Samsung’s S5 Zoom.
The Galaxy S5 Zoom will reportedly ship with a 4.8-inch screen with a 1280 x 720-pixel resolution, smaller and not as sharp as the screen on its flagship brother. Also, Samsung will include its 6-core Exynos 5 chip under the hood, though we expect that a Qualcomm processor will be used if the phone ever launches in the United States. A 20.2-megapixel camera is on board, in addition to Xenon flash, support for 10x optical zoom, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM and a microSD card slot. TouchWiz and Android 4.4 KitKat are also said to be a part of the package.
Things start to differ between today’s news and the image that leaked yesterday, however. Yesterday’s photo detailed a 4.4-44mm 1:3.3-6.7 24mm lens, printed right on the camera module, but SamMobile says the phone will have a 4.4-44mm 1:3.1-6.3 24mm lens. That’s a hair of an improvement over the Galaxy S4 Zoom but, as we already know, isn’t as impressive as what’s on Samsung’s Galaxy Camera.
SamMobile also published some AntuTu benchmark screenshots revealing a score of 33252, showing a considerable performance bump over the Galaxy S4, but warns that it was likely tested on an early build of the phone. Also, with manufacturers working to rig performance scores in benchmarks these days, we’re starting to take all of this with a grain of salt. No word yet on when the Galaxy S5 Zoom will launch.
