With new flagships from HTC and Samsung already announced for 2014, it’s time to start looking for smaller “mini” versions of the new devices. The HTC One (M8) is already available to purchase, hitting the market just hours after its official unveiling, and now we’re hearing the One (M8) mini could launch as early as next month.
A new report from U.K. site 3G claims the device is already scheduled for release in May, at least according to one British electronics retailer with a solid track record for leaking smartphone release dates. The HTC One (M8) Mini will reportedly pack a smaller 4.5-inch display with a resolution of either 720p or 1080p. Apparently the One’s new Duo Camera won’t be included with the mini model in an effort to keep the price down.
The One (M8) mini fits into HTC’s new sales strategy, which relies on offering more than just a single flagship smartphone for new customers. If the company can offer a full lineup of devices at different prices there’s a better chance at least one will sell. The new flagship One and Desire 816 already offer a bit of range, while the One (M8) mini and the inevitable max variant will fill out the rest.
