Windows Phone 8.1 Hitting Sprint HTC 8XT and ATIV S Neo This Summer

HTC 8XT - Lock-Screen

It’s a big day for Windows Phone fans. Microsoft finally unveiled its next major update to the operating system, Windows Phone 8.1, and the good news is it’s going to be available for older phones, too. We already know that Nokia plans to update all of its Lumia smartphones to Windows Phone 8.1, and now Sprint says it’s also adding two others to that list.

The carrier confirmed on Wednesday that the HTC 8XT and the Samsung ATIV S Neo will also receive Windows Phone 8.1 updates, though the patch isn’t expected until sometime this summer. There’s a lot to look forward to. Windows Phone 8.1 includes the new Cortana voice assistant that will take on rivals Siri and Google Now, an actual notification center, customizable lock screen themes, a quick swipe-based keyboard, a more customizable home screen and more.

Microsoft will begin pushing Windows Phone 8.1 out to developer devices by the end of next week, and the update should start hitting other carriers in the coming months. The first phones to launch with the update include the Lumia 930, Lumia 630 and Lumia 635.
