Microsoft is expected to unveil the Lumia 930 during its BUILD developers conference this week and today we’re getting a first look at the device. The leaked image comes from trusted tipster @evleaks and reveals what appears to be a perfect copy of the Lumia Icon, which launched as a Verizon exclusive earlier this year.
Verizon has a lock on the Icon brand, but that doesn’t mean the device won’t see a global release with a new name; it now appears that it will carry the Lumia 930 moniker. The device looks like it will offer many of the same features — it looks almost identical — though it will clearly be available in different colors. It will also need different 3G radios, since the Icon falls back onto Verizon’s EV-DO 3G network which isn’t used in Europe.
Microsoft BUILD kicks off today so it likely won’t be long before the first generation of Windows Phone 8.1 devices are announced. It looks like the Lumia 930 will lead the pack alongside a handful of devices from other phone-makers. We’ll be covering new from the conference live as it breaks. Stay tuned.
