Stephen Elop took the the stage at BUILD 2014 today to announce that Nokia’s full line of Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices will get the upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 this summer. There’s no word on exactly when the update will rollout or how it may vary from carrier to carrier.
Nokia’s full lineup of Windows Phone 8 devices from the entry-level Lumia 520 to the 6-inch Lumia 1520 are due for the upgrade. Elop took the opportunity to note that Google can’t make the same promise with updates to its Android OS, where updates can often take over a year to land depending on the phone and carrier.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Nokia or Microsoft are offering any more details on the upcoming update for now. If you own a Lumia phone, though, it shouldn’t be too long before you’re running Windows Phone 8.1 and chatting with Cortana.
